Privacy notice
This page explains, in plain English, what we do with the details you send us when you enquire about home solar PV or a home EV charger.
Last updated: 1 October 2026
The short version: we only use your details to look at whether your home is a good fit and, if you agree, to pass your enquiry to one Safe Electric registered electrician who covers your area. We don't sell your details and we don't use them for unrelated marketing. Email info@gridwell.ie any time to see, correct or delete them.
Who we are
The data controller is Gridwell (Darragh Loughnane), Newbawn, Co. Wexford, Ireland. "We" and "us" on this page means Gridwell.
Email: info@gridwell.ie
Website: gridwell.ie
Gridwell is an enquiry desk, not an installer. The electrician we refer you to surveys, quotes and does the work. We are independent of SEAI, ESB Networks and Safe Electric.
What we collect
Only what you choose to send us, usually by email (the quick enquiry form on our website just opens your own email app; nothing is stored on the website). That can include:
- Contact details: your name, email address and, if you give it, a phone number.
- Your home: your Eircode, the type of house, and details such as roof direction, shading, where you park and the cable route.
- What you're interested in: solar PV, an EV charger, a battery or diverter, and whether you plan to apply for an SEAI grant.
- Photos and documents you send: for example a photo of your fuse board, meter or roof, or a recent electricity bill (which may show your MPRN and usage). Please keep people and car registration plates out of photos, and feel free to black out anything on a bill you'd rather not share.
- Our notes and emails about your enquiry, including which electrician we referred you to.
- How you found us: if you arrived from a link with a campaign tag (for example from a Facebook or Google ad), the quick enquiry form adds a short line like "Found Gridwell via: facebook / paid / launch" to your email, so we know which ads work. You can delete that line before you send.
We don't need sensitive information such as health details, so please don't send it.
Why we use it
- To reply to your enquiry and answer your questions.
- To check whether your home looks like a good fit for solar PV or an EV charger (roof, parking, fuse board and so on).
- To refer you to a Safe Electric registered electrician covering your area, if you agree, so they can contact you to survey and quote.
- To follow up with you about the referral, and to keep a basic record of who we referred to whom.
We don't sell your details, and we won't send you newsletters or marketing unless you separately ask us to.
Our legal basis
- Steps you ask us to take (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)): you contacted us asking for help, and we need your details to reply and look at your home.
- Your consent (Article 6(1)(a)): we only pass your details to an electrician after you've told us you're happy for us to. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. That won't undo a referral already made, but we'll tell the electrician you no longer want to be contacted.
- Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): keeping a short record of enquiries and referrals, handling any complaints, and understanding which of our ads bring in enquiries.
- Legal obligation (Article 6(1)(c)): where the law requires us to keep records, for example for tax.
Who we share it with
- The electrician we refer you to, only with your consent. We share what they need to contact you and prepare for a survey: usually your name, contact details, Eircode, what you're interested in and any photos or notes you sent. Once they have your details, the electrician is responsible for how they use them, as a separate controller, and their own privacy notice applies.
- Service providers who help us run Gridwell: our email provider (which stores our emails) and our website host, Vercel, which keeps short technical logs such as IP addresses when you visit the site. They act on our instructions. Some providers may process data outside the EEA; where they do, they rely on safeguards approved under GDPR such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Authorities, only if the law requires it.
We don't pass your details to SEAI, ESB Networks or Safe Electric. If you want a grant, you or your electrician apply to SEAI directly.
How long we keep it
We keep enquiry emails, photos and notes for up to 24 months from our last contact with you, so we can deal with follow-up questions, then we delete them. If you ask us to delete your details sooner, we will, unless we need to keep something by law. Any records we must keep for tax or accounting are kept only as long as Irish law requires.
Cookies and tracking
This website doesn't use advertising or tracking cookies. If you arrive with a campaign tag in the link, the page remembers it only for that browser tab (session storage on your device) so it can be added to your enquiry email; it's cleared when you close the tab and is never sent to us unless you send the email. If we add analytics or ad tracking later, we'll ask for your consent first where the law requires and update this page.
Your rights
Under GDPR you can ask us to:
- see the details we hold about you and get a copy;
- correct anything that's wrong;
- delete your details;
- restrict how we use them while a question is sorted out;
- give you your data in a common digital format (portability);
- stop using them where we rely on legitimate interests (objection);
- withdraw your consent to being referred, at any time.
Just email info@gridwell.ie. There's no charge. We'll reply within one month, and we may ask you to confirm who you are first. We don't make automated decisions about you.
Keeping it safe
Your details are kept in a password-protected email account, the website is served over HTTPS, and only Gridwell and the electrician you're referred to see your enquiry.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your details, please tell us first at info@gridwell.ie and we'll try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission, Ireland's data protection regulator, at www.dataprotection.ie (Data Protection Commission, 6 Pembroke Row, Dublin 2, D02 X963).
Changes to this notice
If we change this notice we'll update the date at the top of this page.
